By the end of December 2009, we will be launching a tool to facilitate better consumer/company relations by allowing for rapid drafting and sending of letters by consumers to inform manufacturers about their product concerns. Update: Jan 2. The tool is now available at http://www.enviroconsumer.com/tell
Our current stable of upcoming research focus on household and personal care products. We will branch out as time moves on, but at the moment, the following research is being conducted:
Lightbulb sustainability is a well researched and crowded field, but Joaquin is looking to add a guide to the general impacts of varying types of bulbs to the mix. His research focus on materials used and energy usage.
Thien Vinh is working on a summary of the known environmental and health problems associated with personal care products. This topic is extremely broad, but her analysis will be looking at the main points that are critical to understand to be a smart purchaser of these products with more in depth analysis potentially coming in the future.
An analysis of the impacts of the variety of chemicals that are present in household cleaning chemicals, with special emphasis on the differences between the new lines of environmentally friendly products that have become more visible in the last couple years. Nick is attempting this project as a life-cycle analysis, but has the understanding that large portions of information will be unattainable due to trade secrets and the large number of unknowns in the system.
